I have a Sears (Whirlpool) washer, Model #110.25852400, Series 80 Kenmore. The timer has been replaced because the old/original timer shorted out/scorched some of the contacts in the timer. I installed a new timer, but now neither the hot nor cold water will fill the tub. Is it possibly that the solenoids on the hot and cold water valves were damaged when the timer failed/shorted? Might it have to be do with the water temperature control? I just need to know where to look next/test etc. If I fill the tub manually by disconnecting the hoses and feed the water into the drum from the top, it will work just fine, going through all the proper cycles (wash/rinse/spin) to finish a load.

Hi Terry,

Below are the things you need to check.

1. If the washer is not filling with either hot or cold water and you have water pressure to the inlet valve, you can check the solenoids for continuity. A solenoid that has no continuity is defective and normally is not available separately so you will need to replace the complete valve.

Part # WP3979346

2.  The lid switch, If you have determined that the water inlet valve on your washer is  good then you should check the lid switch. The lid switch is normally located beneath the main top with a projection on the lid or a pin attached to the lid. Disconnect power from the appliance and remove the wires from the switch. You can then check the switch for continuity with a multi-meter.

Part #3949247V

3. The water level pessure switch,  If the switch is defective, it may not supply power to the water inlet valve. You can also check the pressure switch for continuity with a multi-meter

Part #W10168360

Ended up replacing both the timer as well as the water valve assembly.  Thanks for your help.
