Hi Ferdinand, You helped to solve me a XP problem last saturday, do you remember ?
Yes Hi Andre!
What seems to be the problem Andre?
The Dell PC is working fine. Now I have another PC with was shut down for a certain time. Windows XP is working, keybord is working but the mouse is not working. In the setting pannel there is no mouse driver installed. How to install my mouse ?
A mouse driver uses an inbox driver, Which means the mouse should be getting the driver from the WIndows XP itself.
There is no download fo a mouse driver. because it is always compatible and plug and play with any Windows OS including XP.
Try opening Device Manager
Then open the plus sign of the Mice and other pointing Device and tell me what is under it on that computer.
Problem is that on the device manager I have no mouse Folder. Is it perhaps linked to the BIOS setting ? When I first started the computer i got a message that BIOS settings have been changed.
Is the mouse connecting to a port like this?
Yes exactly but my mouse has an USB plug and have an adapter from USB plug to the port shown in your picture. Same for the keyboard, keyboard works.
"While the mouse and adapter is connected,"
Under the device manager are there any icon that has a Yellow mark or icon?
No
Then what you got is a detection problem.
A device that is detected by your computer but has no driver should show an icon with a yellow mark saying unknown device or unknown controller.
Do you have other adapter to try?
If i put the adapter utilised for the keyboard which works to the mouse it still does not work. The mouse is working fine on an other PC. I can try to change the adapter again, give me 5 minutes .
Remember connectto a PS2 port to work.
Every plug in or unplugg of device in those PS/2 ports needs a restart of the computer to Work.
Once you got a new adapter and mous plug it in sevurely and restart the computer.
Exchanged the plugs, keyboard working mouse still not working. Stopped and started PC again.
Therefore the plug is working
The mouse also lights on, it means the mouse gets power from the PC but does not work. When i move the mouse nothing happens on the screen.
Is this mouse working on this computer before? Since you're doing a conversion in is possible that this mouse is not compatible to this XP. Can you try other mouse and restart the computer again.
NO this mouse was not working with this PC. I tried already 2 other mice also not working.
You did a restart after plugging it in right?
Yes follow your advice always restarted PC after plugging in. Even tried 3rd mice now, which is around 10 years old. still not working.
May I ask are you short of USB ports?
also what type of mouse is that? Optical maybe?
No USB ports on this machine. Mouse i tried optical and with tracking ball.
Do you see any label on that adapter you have? any brand model maybe?
You are too strong, Problem solved !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted to send you a picture of the back panel of the PC and found 2 USB ports !!! When i plug the mouse to the USB port it worked immediately.
Remember that If you are missing a driver / Under Devce Manager there should always be a Yellow Icon.
Meaning your computer finds the device and cannot communicate due to lack of driver.
But if there is no Yellow icon / and the Device is not in device manager / You have a detection issue.
Great!
Pefect thanks so much !
By the way where are you located ? in the Philippines ?
Yes, Andre
You seem to be working with a lot of Computer controlled Machine there!
