Have a 2006 sport supercharged 6speed box in auto goes up through all six gears if kicked down to 5th or 4th will not change back up, if changed to manual can go back up to 6th no problem then back to auto. No faults on diagnostics.

Hello Paul

How are you doing? May I ask if there's a history of torque converter replacement on your rover? I'll be standing by for your response.

Thank you

Hi Relly,

Not as far as know all original, was fine until a week ago, kicked down hard went into third would not  change back up, stoped switched of and on again

got all six, but that's when the kick down not change up started. As l said move over to manual all six can then put it back to auto  stays in sixth until kicked down then have to use manual to change back up. 3.20pm here G.M.T.

Well thank you Relly, apart from this damn box which "experts" tell me is fine.

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you have the torque converter replaced for it's always been the culprit in this kind of issue. Below is how it looks like.

The key characteristic of a torque converter is its ability to multiply torque when there is a substantial difference between input and output rotational speed, thus providing the equivalent of a reduction gear. This is a feature beyond that of the simple fluid coupling, which can match speeds but only provides the same torque, thus less power.

Some of these devices are also equipped with a temporary locking mechanism which rigidly binds the engine to the transmission when their speeds are nearly equal, to avoid slippage and a resulting loss of efficiency. If it's worn out the result is what you are experiencing right now. 10 years is not bad for a torque converter and may need replacement. Please note that a worn out torque converter will not throw codes because it's mechanical, no sensors or electrical components attached to it.

Hope this helps and please let me know if there's anything else I can add or help you with. I'll be standing by for your response.

Thank you

Thank you for that information. If that's the case since the transmission will be torn down. You will need to replace the clutch plates / bands

The pressure for the clutches is fed through passageways in the shafts. The hydraulic system controls which clutches and bands are energized at any given moment. They surely are worn out as well that's why they won't go back up.

If it's the transmission solenoid it will give you a code. If it's the transmission control module which controls the shifting it may not give you the right data if it's faulty. It will be hard to tell if the TCM is faulty, it's like the brain of the transmission. The TCM commands the right gear to be used. If this is the case, it's best if you can try to try a different TCM from a 2006 supercharge for you to know that your TCM is working normal
