I have an o5 outback turbo 5 spd. At 80,000 miles, I just had my 4th clutch put in. 2 weeks later I hear a rubbing noise at slow speed. Metal on metal rubbing louder outside of the car. Today I hear a screaching noise when I back up . More if I turn as I back up. The last clutch lasted a year but it was not a dual mass flywheel. One clutch lasted two weeks and went out on the highway the next went outmsuddenly on the hiway. This new clutch is already making noise at 200 miles???

Thank you for your response. There is a possibility that you have a bad "front wheel axle". Have this check. And also have the crossmember and check the "H-bracket". There is a possibility that there is a loose screws and bolts that needs to be tightened. Please advise me of what will be the updates. I will leave this page open and will wait for your updates.

When they replaced the clutch they also replaced worn front end parts

I see. Have them check the "H-bracket", they might not secure or tightened the bolts. Put it in a hanger so they can check it properly.

They replaced front and rear struts, front lower control arms and bushings, and rear and rear sway bar bushings

There is a big possibility that the "H-bracket" is not tightened properly. Have them check the "H-bracket" to see if it is secured properly.

Customer

Ok. I will take it to the mechanic tomorrow and ask about the H bracket

What about the frequent clutch replacement. And the grinding noise is there even if you dont turn

I don't think it is the clutch. Because if its the clutch you will experience it by the time you drive it out from the shop.

My daughter was driving and did notice a slight grinding noise  it is not loud inside the car and hard to hear. A friend heard it louder outside the car

Customer

The clutch was replaced 2 weeks ago .

I see. Once you have it on the shop have the "H-bracket" check first. Once it is all tightened test drive for a couple of blocks to check if the grinding sounds will be still there.

Customer

Will do. Thanks

I see. Have you advise your trusted mechanic if they put genuine clutch parts? Or are you the one installing it?

Replacement intervals vary by vehicle and driving conditions. Similar to brake pads, clutches do not have a recommended replacement mileage. They do wear out, but some will last over 100,000 miles. Manual transmission cars that are driven in heavy traffic, hilly areas, or are more performance oriented may wear their clutches out sooner. So it depends on the condition of the road you are driving and the condition of the roads. Hope this helps. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
