Hello Alford

How are you doing? May I ask the exact year and model of your Jeep. Is the check engine light ON/Flashing in the dash? As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the negative battery connector to reset the system. Let it sit for 5 minutes or more before reconnecting it. Take it for a drive and please let me know of the result.

There are other reasons that can cause this issue. It can be on Limp Mode which keeps the car below 30 miles an hour. The car's computer sets itself to limp mode to prevent further damage on the car. It's best to have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes so that we know what sensor / parts that will require replacement.

If you feel that the transmission is not shifting, there can be problem on the solenoid as well. It's best to have the car scanned and please let me know if there's anything else I can add or help you with. I'll be standing by for your response. Have a great day!

Thank you

The vehicle is a 2007 jeep grand Cherokee with 115k miles . it has been trouble free until now. a week before the problem started we had the spark plugs and oil change. IT is now not in limp mode when i drive it but it goes and comes. plan to have the transmission fluid changed and see if that helps and I will take your suggestion and remove the negative post of the battery and wait at least 5 minutes.

When I took the negative cable off and waited for 30 minutes and replaced it  , notice when placing the cable back there a small arc when replacing the cable with ignition in the off position

no, I am taking the car to Jeep dealership for a fluid change and hoping this will do the trick. is there any history of malfunction that causes the transmission to go into limp mode. i remove the battery cable for an hour. we will see what happens after the fluid is changed,

Good to hear back from you Alford. Sometime it just needs a full reset for it to work again. The transmission control module  sets the behavior of the transmission. When on limp mode, a reset after an oil change or sensor replacement is required. Goodluck and I'll be standing by for the result Alford. Have a great day!
