My problem is that when I connect my Tomtom device to my laptop, it does not connect to the Tomtom website for downloading updates. The website says "connecting" but nothing happens.

Hi Ramy. It is nearly 8.00am in the UK, but I will tell you again my problem with my TomTom device.
When I connect the device to my laptop for updates etc, the TomTom screen says it is 'connecting' which normally happens. However, it does not connect at all, it just goes on 'connecting'. As a pensioner, I have limited knowledge of computers.

Hi Peter! Sorry for the late response. Please try to use a different usb port on your laptop to connect the tomtom device. And before you connect the device make sure to power it off first for 5 minutes and then power it on again. Advise me what will be the result. I will leave this page open and will wait for your response.
Hi Ramy. I tried another usb port and the device connected successfully. However, when downloading the updates, the device did not respond and was eventually 'timed out'. The suggestion was to disconnect the device and re-connect. I plugged into the original usb port and everything was successfully downloaded. I have since downloaded another update and all went OK. I receive 4 or more downloads per week from TomTom!!
