It depends on how many channels you can watch/record at a one time. Different providers/plans have a different number of channels/shows that you can watch at one that include recording. Please check with your cable company and see if you have the plan enabled on your account. Usually, you must have the basic plan with a dvr cable box to record one show and watch another.
Who is your cable service provider?
The dvr records the shows and not the tv itself.
