I have not been able to drive my Cadillac in about three weeks. My ABS,traction control and brake lights were on, and it was saying service stability system. My husband is a mechanic and he scanned the car and ultimately we have had the pressure control solenoid replaced, the driver side wheel hub, and he’s getting ready to replace The outer tie rod now. He was driving it three weeks ago, parked it ,went into the store and when he came out and started it up ,it started but will not move when he put it in gear. It still will start up but it will not move when you put it in gear. We can’t get it to a shop to hook it up to the computer to find out what else we need to fix because we can’t drive it anywhere. Do you have any ideas on why my car will start but not move? Any ideas on what to fix next? We Also looked online to see how to reset the computer and he’s tried that and it still won’t move. I have a 2006 SRX.

Hello Stacey

How are you doing? There's a lot of cause why the car won't move when the engine is running. I will just ask a few questions to know more of the car. Will the car start even when you put it in gear before starting? Try to depress the brake pedal and hold it there during the test. Turn the ignition key to the 'Start' position (as if you were to start the engine) and hold it there. Move the shift selector through the different positions. if the engine starts in a position other than Park or Neutral, most likely the switch needs adjustment or you will need to replace the Neutral Safety Switch to resolve the issue.

Hope this helps and please leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Have a good one!

Thank you

Relly

I tried it and it only starts in park and neutral.

Good to hear back from you Stacey. May I ask if your husband check or replaced the synchronizer/shifter linkage on the car? A worn synchronizer can also cause the transmission to jump into neutral after you shift into gear. This can be a dangerous problem when you're out on the road. It could also cause the transmission to get stuck in one gear or be hard to shift and sometimes you feel like it's in gear but it's not that's why it won't move.

I also forgot to tell you that when it's in park, if you give it gas, it creeps forward a little, and when we had it towed, the car's back tires wouldn't go so they had to use lubricant and slide it off the flatbed.

Good to hear back from you Stacey. Thank you for that info. Before we go to the difficult part I am suspecting that you have a brake issue. Its either you have a faulty hydrovac which controls pressure to the brakes or your brake pistons are stuck up or brake pads ate worn out thats why it wont move when put in drive. Please look into those and I believe you'll be good after. Hope this helps Stacey. You have a good one!
