2017 GMC Sierra 1500 When truck shifts from 1st to 2nd you hear a clunk noise from the driveline. The service department gave us a paper with information about this problem and it discourages them from attempting to repair the driveline. The paper says that the clunk is almost never the result of one individual component with excessive lash, but rather the result of the added effect of free play present in all of the driveline components. This truck has less than 2000 miles on it and with the price we paid for the truck I don’t find this an acceptable answer. Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem?

Is this not covered with warranty because it's just almost a year

It is covered under warranty.

That's good. It's not only you experiencing this issue Janet. Usually they thighten the bolts but will not resolve the issue. Some found it that it's trying to adjust on your driving style but still not the point. The driveline should really have a physical check up and replace the affected parts. It's a common issue but it's always repairable Janet

There's a possibility that the brakes lock up too early during stops and too late to disengaged when taking off. This can create a clunking noise to the transmission and driveline as well. You can tell this to the dealers on the next visit. They will check the brakes as well for this matter Janet

So do I go back and insist that they fix it?  Since they said it could be several components affected.  I was thinking they were hoping that I would forget about it.  What would be your approach to this issue?

Yes Janet you should go back and tell them to fix it. It's their responsibility and you should get your moneys worth. Tell them about the brakes can be the issue as well because it can be dragging the driveline during stops and taking off. They will understand that principle and they will know that you have help from the outside for them to fix this issue.

I have read something about the brakes.  Have the other people with this problem got it fixed?

I see... Yes Janet it is resolveable. There are issues of loose bolts and brake issues. Once the brakes our bleeded properly, the clunking noise are eliminated because the dragging from the brakes stopped.
