I have a 1994 GMC Sonoma SLS 4x4 w/4.3 "W-VIN". I have a 4WAL ABS module mounted on left fender well. I want to replace the "control module" but don't see it under hood or on frame under cab. Can you tell me where it's located?

Hi David,

Thank you for waiting.

The 4WAL should be located beside the master cylinder. See picture below.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Elixir

I have looked at all the diagrams online and have"NO JOY". The 2WAL and RWAL are mounted as shown in your diagram the 4WAL is not. My background is in the RV Ind. I have 30 years as a "Master Service Tech." so I know my way around a engine compartment. The control module I have is approx. 8"x6"x11/2" it is not mounted in plain sight. I don't want to pull the truck apart to find it. Included are pics of  the new module. I have pic of under the hood but couldn" include it New Module

Ok. The 4 wheel ABS, (4WAL) systems look like this.

The second picture that you sent is the 4WAL.

Hi Elixir,You see the diagram you sent does not look like the pic I sent.  Mine does not have aa 10 pin conn. on top an my washer res is in fron t of the ECHU valve. The harness goes through firewall just right of brake booster. The control modue might be in the left kick panel.Ijust don't want to tear the truck apart and not find it there. I have a Chiltons repair manual and it only address the 2WAL. The new Module also has a 55 pin conn. [see pic]55 pin conn.

Elixis.I appreciate any help you can offer! I spent all day online looking at diagrams and not one pictured the 4WAL module I have or addressed the placement. All the auto parts suppliers and I checked a bunch all call for the same module I have pictured. I don't doubt I have the right one. I have checked the fitment at each site. I have done a lot of work on this truck and that [ABS] light on dash is the last thing I need to fix.  Thanks again!

For the meantime while waiting for other experts to step in, have you checked the ABS sensors? You have mentined that the ABS light is on and common issue is the ABS sensor is at fault or it just needs to be cleaned.

I have checked the sensors the wiring and pulled apart the connectors. After inspection I did not find any corrosion or loose fitting plugs.I sprayed with electronic cleaner and applied dielectric grease plugged everything in.  I would do that at the control module too if I could find it! The ABS light comes on after about 50 ft.  After scanning I get a list of codes that all report a "Control Module Fault" Ther must have been 15 or 20 fault codes. I also cleand and greased the connectors at the HMV you see in the pic I sent of unit on fender well
