Hello Relly
Hi John
How are you doing? Is there any history of BCM replacement? Below is what it looks like
The automotive central body control module (BCM) is a processor-based power distribution center that supervises and controls functions related to the car body such as lights, windows, security, door locks and access control, and various comfort controls. If the BCM is faulty you'll encounter problems like you are having now. I'll be standing by for your response. Thank you.
Regards
Relly
not in the 2 years I have owned the car
I see... I suspect the BCM at the moment and it will require replacement. I strongly suggest that you take it in to a reputable auto shop for a physical check up John just to be sure.
It was put on a scanner at a shop and they said the ecm was showing good
I see. The ECM (Engine control module) is a computer that controls the engine and all the sensor that works within. The BCM (body control module) is like a brain that controls all the electronic function of the vehicle. For example below.
ECM
BCM
The ECM and BCM has a complete different function John as you can see from the pic above. Atleast its a good sign that theres no fault showing on the ECM during the SCAN
Is there anything else I can add or help you with John?
where is the bcm located and is it rebuildable
Usually it is located underneath the dash John. May I ask the exact model of your Volvo so I can check wheres the exact location. Some do reflash the BCM before replacing it. There are shops and electronics center that do this.
2001 S80
Its underneatht the dash John
OK, Thanks they called that a cem on ebay,do you think a used one will work or should I go for reman.
Actually you can get one from a yard near you just to check if it will work John plus its much cheaper
ok,I'll try it thanks

Hi Relly,I just got the part off,at least I think it's the part. The one you showed looks more like a box what I got out was just under the dash but it had a lot of relays and shunts on it,it looks like a fuse box. Also if this is the part,I've been told I have to have it reprogrammed.Any information on that.
Hi John yes it's like a fuse box with lots of relays on it. What I showed you is just a reference. Yes sometimes they will need to be reporgrammed but you might want to try to install it first because some doesn't need to.
When do you plan to install it John?
as soon as possible,my only other transportation is a winnebago
I see.... You'll be good after the replacement John. Anything else I can add or help you with?

Dear John, It was a pleasure helping you with your VOLVO issue today. Here is a summary of the resolution.
Issue identified : All electrical function is not working
Solution Implemented : Chat and called John. This is usually a failing BCM because it's the brain of all the electrical functions inside the car that if it's faulty this issue will occur. Solution Accepted
If issue resurfaces : Advised to contact us at s**t@experthelp.com or call us on our support number ***-***-**** )
Relly, thanks for the help but the problem has not been resolved completely as yet, waiting for the part.
No worries John.. you have 30 days to communicate with me. You may email me at d**9@yahoo.com as well for any additional information. You have a good one!
Relly,I put a used bcm in and the dash lights and gauges work but the car will not start, will not turn over.
Hello John
Good to hear back from you. It's good to know that other electrical functions are working now. Here's some few reason why it will not turn over even if you have fuel.
1. Faulty starter
2. Failing crankshaft position sensor
3. Failing coilpacks
4. Failing sparkplugs
I am suspecting that the crankshaft position sensor is failing. Is there any history of crankshaft position replacement? The functional objective for the crankshaft position sensor is to determine the position and/or rotational speed (RPM) of the crank. Engine Control Units use the information transmitted by the sensor to control parameters such as ignition timing and fuel injection timing. I'll be standing by for your response. Thank you

It was starting great before I replaced the bcm.Is there any relationship between the bcm and starting?
It was starting great before I replaced the bcm.Is there any relationship between the bcm and starting?
It is not the crankshaft sensor,I just replaced it,
There's no relationship between the two John. When you start the car, will it crank?
Oh good! No,there is not a sound. Also, some of my lights don't work,I suppose I should get the old one rebuilt? But this one came up with the same mileage. There is fire to the starter.
Good to know that the starter is live. Yes you may want to have it rebuilt as well and see for yours can be fresher.
any suggestions on the starter
I would try to remove the starter and test it using the battery and see if it will kick
OK
I tested the starter by crossing the feeds in the relay and the starter works.I checked the starter relay and it's fine,I've replaced the ignition switch,So where to now,the neutral switch?
Looks like that it's the neutral switch that needs to be taken care of John because the starter looks pretty good to me.
