Hi Shayne,

Can you test the issue further.  Start the engine with the cap to the coolant reservoir off.  If you will get bubbles from the coolant, then you have a blown head gasket.

You can send me a reply by entering your message in the box at the top then hit the send response button to send.

Hello Elixir, the car is my dads and its an hour away from where I live, he lives in the city of Perth Western Australia.

I'll be travelling there tomorrow.

I'm a mechanic myself and will check for head gasket tomorrow. Im not familiar with volvo engines, are there other possibilities, eg  oil cooler or other areas eg seals that that isolate oil and coolant cavities or galleries.

You might check also the oil cooler line inside the radiator might got broke. But 100% of the time the problem could be a blown head gasket. You will notice also white smoke and the engine will run rough., symptoms of a blown head gasket.

Hi! Elixir,.

Sorry I have not got back to you earlier. I have had to go back to work.  We have discovered that it was the head gasket that has blown and I thank you for your help.
