Yes - I have two accounts on the computer - my main one, which I cannot access any browser on, and an Admin one which I seem to be able to get Edge on, which is what I am using

That's fine, please tell me what to do. At one point yesterday when I was trying to sort this out I got a message that said 'external drives must be re-formatted'! I keep all my files on an portable external hard drive - definitely don't want to re-format it! I think the problem also has something to do with 'Killer Control Centre;

This happened a while ago, and I changed my network settings to not allow updates, but I have changed it back to allow for now in case that was also causing the problem.
